How to install the Compex LinkPort/UE202-B USB to Fast Ethernet Adapter for Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (ME) ==================================================================== System Requirements Software (supports the following operating systems): o Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition Hardware: o Minimum configuration: Pentium 200 MHz, 32 MB RAM o Compex LinkPort/UE202-B USB to Fast Ethernet Adapter This installation procedure assumes you already have MS Windows Me installed in your computers. Note:- Different MS Windows OS environment and TCP/IP Addressing: If you have other PCs installed with MS Windows 95 and you want to network with MS Windows Me, please refer to the document WIN95.TXT for more details. Running the network with TCP/IP network protocol ------------------------------------------------ When installing a new network at home we recommend using this private IP address range, 192.168.168.xxx where xxx is a number from 1 to 254 Each notebook or PC must be assigned a unique IP address. The first machine will use IP address 192.168.168.1 The second machine will use IP address 192.168.168.2 and so on. During the installation you will be prompt to enter a IP address. Enter the address for each machine installed. Installation on Windows Me ========================== NOTE: During the installation process, some files might need to be copied from the Windows Me CD. Please have it ready in the CDROM drive. 1. If you notebook or PC is already up and running Windows, simply insert the Compex LinkPort/UE202-B adapter into the USB port. 2. As LinkPort/UE202-B adapter is plug and play, Windows will auto-detect the adapter and display below and prompt for the driver. " USB 10/100 LAN" Insert the Compex LinkPort/UE202-B driver disk in drive A. 3. The Add New Hareware Wizard screen display the following: What would you like to do ? _/ - Automatic search for a better driver (Recommended) o - Specific the location on the drive (Advanced) Recommended to use the first option. To continue click 'Next' button. 4. Windows Me will automatically select Compex LinkPort/UE202-B adapter driver from the floppy disk as the best driver to install. 5. When completed Windows will prompt to reboot. Click YES to reboot. * Note:- At this point if you want to make changes to the TCP/IP configuration, you should answer NO and proceed to section "Configuring TCP/IP" Here you add the IP address for the machine as explained above. If you have click YES do not worry. Let the machine restart and continue to "Configuring TCP/IP" Configuring TCP/IP ------------------ 1. Click the START on the bottom left conner. From the menu, click SETTINGS then Control Panel. In Control Panel, double-click on the Network icon. If you have problem following this refer to Windows manual for details. By default, Windows Me install only the following; o- Client for Microsoft Network o- Compex LinkPort/UE202-B USB to Fast Ethernet Adapter o- TCPIP Double-click on the TCPIP item in the box. The TCPIP properties page will display. Click on the IP Address tab. Enter the following for the first machine: IP Address : 192.168.168.100 Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0 Enter 192.168.168.2 for the next machime and so on. You can normally the Default Gateway box blank if you do not have a network server or router (like internet access router). Click OK to return to the Network box. From here you can chose to enable sharing of your machine resources like hard disk and printer. Continue to Enabling Sharing if you want to share otherwise, click OK to save the configurations and Windows will prompt to restart the machine. Click YES. When machine restarted, the network adapter is ready to service the network. Enabling Sharing ---------------- If you plan to share this machine hard disk and/or printer click on the option File and Print Sharing button once. The configuration box will be immediately updated and the option will be added to the box. Click OK and Windows will prompt to restart the machine. Click YES to restart.
