In order to use this device, you must have a copy of Microsoft Windows 98 operating system installed on your PC. Some versions of Windows 95 version B (OSR2) support USB port. This Windows version and UBS support may not work properly with this driver. It is designed specifically and tested for Windows 98 only. 2. Also, the device requires that a USB port is installed and enabled on your PC. Some PCs have a USB port, but it is disabled. Usually there is a toggle switch on the motherboard that will enable a PC's USB port. Consult your computer's user guide. Some motherboards have USB interfaces, but no ports. You should be able to install your own USB port and attach it to your PC's motherboard using hardware purchased at any computer store. Please refer to A:\README.TXT for latest update not in documented in the manual. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- DRIVER INSTALLATION ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow the instructions below to install the adapter's driver. 1. Install the Compex LinkPort/UE202-B USB To Fast Ethernet Adapter to your PC or notebook or USB hub if you haven't already done so. (See A:\README.TXT in Hardware setup) 2. Turn ON your PC or notebook and boot up Windows 98. 3. Windows 98 will display, "USB 10/100 LAN" in "New Hardware Found" dialog box and "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box. If the Wizard does not appear, please refer the section "Is USB port device correctly installed" below. 4. Click "Next >" button when "Search for the best for your device. [Recommended]" is on. 5. Insert Compex LinkPort/UE202-B Driver Diskette in your floppy drive. 6. Enable the "Floppy disk drives" check box and then click "Next" button. 7. Windows 98 will display, "Compex LinkPort/UE202-B USB To Fast Ethernet Adapter" in "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box. 8. Click "Next" button and Windows starts to copy files from Windows 98 CD-ROM to your hard disk. 9. When the Insert Disk message appears, click OK. When the Copying Files ... window appears, type A:\ into the box displayed and click OK. 10. Click "Finish" button from "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box. 11. Remove the USB Adapter Driver Diskette from your floppy drive. 12. Restart your computer to take effect the network function. Uninstalling Compex LinkPort/UE202-B USB To Fast Ethernet Driver ---------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Close all active windows. 2. Click Settings, click on Setting then Control Panel. Double-click on the select Network icon. 3. Under the configuration tab highlight, "Compex LinkPort/UE202-B USB To Fast Ethernet Adapter" Click Remove then select OK. 4. If you are prompted to restart your computer click NO. 5. Run the uninstall file, A:\>Win98\UN202B98 from the driver disk, or copy this file to the root of driver C and run C:\>UN202B98 When the driver files were successfully removed, the message, " Compex LinkPort/UE202-B driver files successfully removed." Uninstall completed. Alternatively, you can also manually delete the files as follows: 1. Go to Windows\Inf folder. Delete the file NETU202B.inf Go to Windows\Inf\Other folder. Delete the file CompexNetu202b.inf. 2. Drivers files are now removed. Uninstall completed. Restart the computer. Is USB port device correctly installed ? ---------------------------------------- If the Wizard does not appear when you plug in the adapter, go to "Device Manager" to check whether "Universal Serial Bus controllers" exists. You can do this to go to "Device Manager" : Right click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop, then select "Properties" or Double click on the "System" icon in Control Panel. Select the "Device Manager" tab. Select and expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers". For example, you will see Universal Serial Bus controllers Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller USB Root Hub Make sure that there is no red "X" sign or "!" mark on them. Thus, USB is correctly installed.
